Yep, I'm in Boulder, not Colorado, but Western Australia. Vista? No way,
but have to admit using XP (Don't tell PCR) Mainly for the video work I'm
doing. Win98 is my OS of choice - am not double booting (or whatever it's
called) have 2 computers with either being connected to the net at any one
time. Any comp. probs I can usually google the answer.

LOL, I had no idea that there was a Boulder in Western Australia!
I guess the video apps you are using are the newer ones that require XP.
I've noticed that most of the multimedia applications coming out require
WinXP now, but some of the older apps will run on Win98SE. I do some
audio restoration work as a hobby (cleaning up old radio broadcasts, etc),
and use some of the older versions of some audio software (with plug-ins).

Two computers sounds like a good solution for the Win98 and XP thing, as
long as you don't have to keep the data updated between them. (You
probably use each one for its own purpose, though, and with little or no
overlap).

Boulder (Kalgoorlie=Gold)
Yeah, XP lets me get that BIG file size for video, and to move the files
around, which 98 doesn't. I do a bit of audiio restore work too, converting
the partners vinyl to cd, what a chore, though found 'De-popper' to be a
really good tool, my ears ain't what they used to be methinks!
Any data swapping I require is done by a little thumb drive, what a great
tool that is.

Yeah, that's right. We have a 4 GB limitation (and sometimes it's 2.1 GB)
with FAT 32. But the DVD video .vob files are each 1 GB max, so when I
was doing some video stuff with DVDs, it wasn't a problem for me. If
there were a video file that was contiguous and over 4 GB, I wouldn't be
able to handle it, LOL. I suppose like from a video camera - not sure.

Absolutely. It is a chore, since no two files are alike, and they all
need different amounts of restoration one size doesn't fit all. And then
transferring it to CD, etc. It is a bit of a pain, LOL.

Very good for the money. I think it was around $20. And was also
advertised on DAK.

For a bit more $$, there's some other good stuff too, say like Spin It
Again, and AudioLava, Sound Laundry (well, that's even more expensive, but
really nice), etc (these are the all-in-one type apps) and they don't
require an audio editor.

Most of what I use now are DX and VST audio restoration plug-ins within an
audio editor, like SoundForge, Acoustica, Cool Edit, or Audio Audition (but
that one can't run on Win98SE). But that process is a bit more time
consuming, since you have to bring it up in the audio editor first, and then
decide which plug-ins to use, etc. But you can see the waveform and work
on various parts if needbe.

Yeah, you can go as far as you like and a bit further with audio editing. I
like using Nero wave Editor, can see the clicks and hisses!
The video I play around with is straight from the minidv tape and big file
types, as I like to download as one file, then split and play around with
it, sometimes use Nero or Ulead video studio.

Right. I've got the limited edition of Nero that doesn't have the editor.

Doesn't Nero's editor have a built in click and pop remover? No, I guess
not - that's probably why you needed the other one. I use these other
audio editing programs like SoundForge, Cool Edit, and Acon's Acoustica.
But they are not truly all-in-one packages like Nero is, which can actually
burn the CDs and DVDs, too!

MB per minute, or what (as an average)? (I'm sure it varies with the
quality selected, but I was just curious what an average might be).

I've also got an older version of Ulead's Video Studio 7. And also
NeoDVDPlus (simpler, but not as powerful).

Oh yeah, Pebble, you may want to check this one out: VideoReDo - it's
pretty great for editing video. Have you seen it? (But it's not an
all-in-one package like Nero, or at least wasn't).

Hiya Bill,
Yeah, Nero does have a click and pop remover, but can't fine tune it very
much and can't listen to changes before the burn. Had a look at video redo,
seems a good programme, but more for editing dvd VOB files, whereas minidv
is AVI or MPEG when downloaded to computer. 3.6 Megabytes per second, tape
is 60 minutes so 12.66 GB per hour!
I use Ulead video studio 7 also, was thinking about updating that one or
getting something completely different. Nero is OK but my main use for Nero
is CD and ISO, NRG burning, don't like how it handles making DVD's.
Right now I've got so much footage, that I think I need ANOTHER hard drive
(Have 2 on each machine!)
A little holiday job methinks B-)

As you know, this time & last, my efforts to quit quickly led to my
picking butts up right off the sidewalk & gutter! I'm not sure I can
endure that embarrassment a third time. (I don't have Terhune's
constitution!) And I kept picking them up a bit even after calling it
quits & buying tobacco tins! Now I do exclusively roll my own with
filters. I am back to a degree of huffy-puffyness walking uphill. I was
coughing for a while due to the switch to Top & Bugler tins instead of
indian reservation scalp brand, but that has gone now.
