Scan to email function in HP C4180 All in one printer

When I use my HP 4180 photosmart all in one and choose the optin to "scan to
email" I get an error message saying "working email software not found"

My Windows Mail is in fact up and running. Even when I follow HP's procedure
to link the printer/scanner to my email client it shows Window Mail as the
email of choice. After unloading and reloading all the new HP software and
drivers and working with HP, they say it is a problem with Windows Mail.

Any suggestions/help?

Does the scanner support "lightweight" clients like Outlook Express or
Windows Mail, or does it require a full client like Outlook.
