Numerous Issues with October 2020 Cumulative Update

I assume it's Build 19041.572 since it was the 'Windows 10 version 2004' update that started all of my problems. Unfortunately, I can't confirm it though.

I realize this is long, but I don't have time to go back and forth multiple times over the next few days. I'm a freelancer. So, if my laptop isn't working, I can't make any money to pay my bills. Because of this, I've provided as much information as I can think of up front. It is imperative I find a solution for this ASAP.

Let me begin by highlighting the fact that my laptop is used daily and it was running great prior to the following events which began this morning.

I allowed the October 2020 cumulative update to be downloaded and installed (the first step, pre-reboot) this morning. It's worth mentioning that the installation portion was significantly slower than normal.

Once it completed, I restarted my laptop as requested. After it stayed hung on the blue "restarting" screen for 5-10+ minutes, I remembered that I need to unplug all usb devices about 50% of the time in order for this step to actually complete. So, with great frustration, I did a hard shut down, unplugged everything, and then booted it.

Once logged in, I attempted to open Settings to see if I would need to re-download/install the update prior to this second attempt to reboot (I've needed to do this in the past). However, the Windows Updates section of Settings wouldn't load. After several minutes (and everything on my laptop responding abnormally slowly), I tried again and a vague message finally appeared in the Windows Updates section saying something along the lines of 'Windows settings cannot be opened now. Please try again later'. No code or anything like that.

So, I closed Settings and then clicked Start-> Power -> Update and Restart (or whatever the wording is). Nothing happened. After several minutes, I try again... Nothing.

Once again, I manually shut down the laptop. I waited a minute or two and then booted it, again.

After probably 5-10 minutes of a black screen with the HP logo and spinning circle, the screen went completely black for a minute. Then, a blue screen appeared with "please wait" (or something similar) and a different spinning circle. After several minutes of this, it finally reached the login screen.

I logged in and gave it several minutes to finish loading everything (way more time than it normally needs). I checked for Windows Updates again (which took way too long) and it said it was up to date.

Since everything was still moving incredibly slowly, I decided to reboot it once more. This time, although it took a while, the Restart button (no notice of updates needing to install) actually worked.

For over 5 minutes, the screen turned blue and said "Restarting" with the spinning circle. After this, the screen went black for roughly a minute until the HP logo and spinning circle appeared. After a few minutes of this, it went completely black again for a couple of minutes. Then, blue with "please wait" and a spinning circle for several minutes. Then, finally to the login screen.

Once I logged in, it took several more minutes to finish loading everything (showing taskbar icons, starting Kaspersky in the background, etc.). This typically happens pretty quickly.

After confirming that no new updates were found, I ran disk cleanup thinking I would 'clear out the cobwebs' before trying another reboot. There were 4.79 GB of windows updates files to be cleared. I clicked the button agreeing to permanently delete the files and walked away. After making lunch and chatting with my daughter, I returned to see that absolutely no progress had been made. So, I clicked cancel. It escaped without delay.

Since everything was still running so slowly, I decided to just do a system restore to the restore point that was created this morning before I installed the updates.

After ~3 hours, it was still stuck on the following:
"Please wait while your Windows files and settings are being restored. System Restore is restoring the registry..."

I read several articles that suggested doing a hard reboot and letting Automatic Repair resolve the issues. So, I tried that.

After it was stuck on the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen (with spinning circle) for more than an hour, I began searching for answers about that problem.

I read several posts that suggested I do a hard reboot multiple times in order for it to prompt me with a troubleshoot option. I've done a hard reboot at least 5 times and it continues to go straight to the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen.

PLEASE HELP!!!

I am literally going to have to turn down work (and I have a family to support) if I can't get my laptop running. Once again, I want to point out that it was running just fine before that stupid Windows Update.
