Finding Outlook.live.com unresponsive to shut down

I have several times in the last couple of weeks found my personal icon unresponsive when I want to shut down Outlook.live.com.


Constant clicking produces no drop down menu with 'Sign Out option. Instead the little blue circle goes round and round.


This is on an old laptop running WinXPsp3.
