USB Modem not detected...

Lori

I've just attached a Compaq 56k USB external fax modem to my kids computer to
allow them internet access, but the modem is not recognized via the USB port.
I have the install disk for the modem, but it's not recognizing the modem
when i use the setup for this.

Any ideas on what I can do to get this working?

Try another USB device on the port to determine if the port itself is
bad...or if the problem is with the modem

I've tried using a flash drive in the both of the USB ports and it seems to
work fine for that. But plugging the modem into either of them seems to be
the issue.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

The modem or it's "power block" if it has one is probably defective...

Try the modem on another machine and if it's stillnot detected...then it's
probably just plain bad...

If possible, use a serial modem...they seem to always work

If you have a serial port (com1 or com2), use an external modem of U.S.
Robotics make on that port. Take the USB modem back where you got it.
