Why does my CDRom Drive open at 6 a.m. while computer is on standby? While my XP Pro SP3 cojmputer is on Standby, every morning at 6 a.m. the CDRom tray opens by itself then the computer goes back into standby. This didn't start until after I did 3 things: I changed the cable from flat ribbon to round, I disabled an HP Printer Service that has nothing to do with the CDRom drive, and I disabled the service that scans the computer at startup for any existing Virus Protection software. So I changed the IDE cable and I disabled two startup services that have nothing to do with CDRom. Is it possible that ANYTHING in the IDE cable can cause the CDRom drive tray to open all by itself every morning at 6 a.m.? I seriously doubt it so I can't imagine what, after 20+ years, has caused the CDRom drive to open by itself from standby mode every morning at 6 a.m. then the computer goes back to sleep with the tray left open. Every morning I wake up and find the computer's CDRom tray open and the computer is still in Standby as I left it. This does NOT happen if the computer is off. This happens only while in Standby. Other than this, the drive works perfect and plays all discs perfectly fine and the open/close button works perfect. There are no other issues. So I can't imagine what is causing this computer to automatically wake up at 6 a.m., eject the tray for drive E, then go back to sleep. It's almost unbelievable! I did not mess with ANY software or drivers. I just swapped the flat IDE cable for a round one. Any ideas?
