Hey there,
I have a laptop, usually running with latest drives (at least for GPU and windows), running Win10 Pro.
Yesterday, Windows started the 20H2 update automatically.
After some time doing that, the whole system froze. No mouse movement possible.
Eventually, it rebooted the laptop.
After that I always end up in the Automatic repair screen.
If I try to reset the windows while keeping my own files, I get the BluescreenOfDeath about the pagefault after some 40-60%.
I'm not even able to start into safe mode.
Tried to restore the system to on eof the two restore points, I had available. Fails each time eventually with a non-system-related batch file (something-something-dropbox).
Created a Windows installation media and tried this that, too. No other results.
Checkdisk didn't show any errors and didn't repair anything.
sfc din't show any errors.
Tried with bootrec and all options. Didn't do anything - except for /fixboot, where it says I don't have access.
Tried to rebuild the boot partition entirely, with format and bcdboot.
Didn't do anything.
I always end up in the automatic repair mode.
Frankly, I'm running out of ideas.
Other posts in the net suggest something about disabling the page file or checking it - but AFAIK for that you need at least a working save mode. Given that I have 32gig of RAM, I might not even need the page file. But that is still a shot in the blue.
Oh, yeah, I don't have any other 3rdParty virus scan software running.
Any ideas, what I could try next are highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Timo
