net share?

[Mark]

I delete a user qsmith from AD but when the server boots up in the event
viewer I get the message below for all those users I delete.

How do you go about deleting this or using net share?

The server service was unable to recreate the share qsmith because the
directory d:\users\qsmith no longer exists. Please run "net share qsmith
/delete to delete the share, or recreate the directory d:\users\qsmith

You delete the share by following the above instruction literally.

net share qsmith /delete

Hi - I see you already got this resolved, but note that it's best not to
share each subfolder as a home directory. Unless you're using WinNT/XP
clients, you can map a drive to the subfolder of a share. So I'd use
\\server\users\%username% as the home directory - and share only Users.

That said, when you are going to delete a shared folder, unshare it first.

I'll say amen to that. I inherited an environment where 40 folks each has
a \\servername\%username% share as their home directory. This doesn't scale
well.

We do use home directories (U:\ becomes \\localserver\users$\%username%)
and redirect My Documents to same via GP. Not sure of the actual security
benefit of hiding the users$ share since its pretty well-known, but hiding
shares that end-users shouldn't ever need to browse/discover is also a Good
Idea.

Yep. The only time I leave the "users" folder as a non-hidden share is in
SBS environments, because that's one of those weird SBS things you can't
change without mucking something up. All other shares are hidden....why not?
