'A required privilege is not held by the client' error when trying to run programs / apps

Hi

I experienced a computer crash (Windows 10 home) recently and since then I have been unable to open most of the programs I have tried (e.g. Chrome, Microsoft Outlook, etc). The most common error message is 'A required privilege is not held by the client'. Of all the programs I have tried, so far, only the Microsoft Edge browser and Notepad have worked (although Notepad displayed an error message).

I've read that this problem could be related to anti-virus software (F-Secure SAFE), but I have been unable to run it (same error as above); or update / uninstall the software via the Control Panel (same error as above). I have also tried downloading their uninstall tool via their website. Unfortunately, despite trying to download several programmes from the internet, the Edge browser always says 'XXX [the filename] contained a virus and was deleted'. As I believe that these are false positives (I also checked the URLs with the VirusTotal website) I have tried to find where these downloads are blocked, so far, without any success.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

M
