I reinstalled Windows XP Sp3 on a HP Compaq Presario Desktop computer. Local Area Connection is connected with wire, Device Manager fine. ipconfig and ping are normal. TCP/IP reset done. No virus as I reformatted the hard drive.
I can access a few websites such as www.msn.com and the home page of google.com and www.bing.com; even I can do some Google searches; but cannot access other websites.
My last step is upgrading IE to Version 8. The Internet explorer diagnosis log says: Windows could not connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP. This probably caused by firewall settings on the computer. I found HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP services not checked in Advanced Settings of the Windows Firewall. I checked all services in the list; but still no internet connection and the diagnosis log shows the same results. I have been working on the computer for a week and rolled out many other causes. This may be the final step toward resolving the issue. Sincerely wish to get help from fellows.
