elearning course - xls not compatible with vista machine?

H

Hoots Mon

Hello
I wanted to sign up for the following course:
4106: Core Training for Microsoft Office Excel 2003.

After running the Test your computer's capabilities check I am given the
following message:

Microsoft®Windows® 2000 or higher not found.

I am running a genuine Vista Home Premium OS on a brand new Toshiba
Satellite 2gb RAM machine. I don't understand why the test cannot pick this
information up from my computer. I am also unable to hear the sound test
despite all other programmes (including xls) having audio available.

When I phoned the European helpline they suggested that it might be because
elearning is not compatable with Vista just yet. Is that possible?

Anything is possible. And that is probable. Anyhow, try right-clicking on
the shortcut to start the program, go to the Compatibility tab, and specify
WindowsXP Compatibility mode. That should get rid of the message. Depending
on what the program does, you may also have to set it to run as
Administrator.

What browser are you using? If you are using a browser other than IE7,
Vista's default browser, it's possible that's the compatibility problem. If
you are using a different browser, try with IE7 and see if you get the same
message. If you are using IE7, I'd contact eLearning support, I assume this
is Microsoft eLearning you should be able to find some support link at the
website where all of this is occurring.

Have completed several e-learning courses using Vista - however the subject
matter was Vista. Evidently the course in which you are interested may be a
"carryover" from previous Windows versions and not updated for Vista.

Hello
I am using IE7. I am also the administrator. I think given the info from
the European helpdesk I have to assume that they have not updated this course
for Vista yet.

The stupid thing is - when it says there may be an issue 'click here to
learn more' it simply takes you through to another MS page which advertises
Vista?!

I am not sure who to 'prod' in order to get an answer as to why there is no
note on the site about incompatibility with Vista. I would think it should
be up there as a major flag point in order not to waste people's time or
money.

Cheers
Hoots

Thank you all for your input.
