Start menu icons

Say someone has accidentally deleted the folder containing all start menu
icons, and has no backups or restore points created, but has an otherwise
fully funtioning system which has been personalised a fair bit anddoesn't
ant to have to format.

What's the best and quickest solution to this?

Repair install from DVD?

Open start menu, r/click on window > select start menu > select "customize" >
select 'use default settings', OK - should fix.
