Solution for broken "night light" settings

After spending several hours trying to figure out why I was unable to change the "Night Light" settings in Windows 10 (moving the slider made no change, and moving the toggle switch would crash the "Display Settings" GUI), I finally found a correct solution here after trying a few that had no effect or caused more problems.

There are a few posts where deleting a couple of registry keys is suggested. Don't do that or your "Display Settings" will crash immediately, and if you didn't export/back up those keys, you have an even bigger problem on your hands.

I'm the type of user who disables a lot of (seemingly unnecessary) services to conserve resources. If you are having an issue with the "night light" feature, I recommend that you take a look at the last post in this thread:

In summary, if you can't adjust the "night light" in Windows 10, make sure that you have not disabled the "Connected Devices Platform Service".

Many thanks to "Hayes E" who posted this solution that worked for me. I was on the verge of doing a complete reinstall.
