Hello,
I have a new webcam connected to the destop pc I use for online classes. It has a blue led which turns on whenever the camera is used by an application, and that's completely normal and fine, but I've noticed something strange.
First of all, until yesterday the led used to stay on even after i had turned the PC off, and that honestly freaked me out a little bit. Then I noticed that for some unknown reason the BIOS ErP setting had switched to "Disabled" by itself, so basically all the USB peripherals where powered even when the PC was off. So this solved the problem of the LED that was on even when I was sleeping, which was kinda scary, but didn't solve the second problem. Basically what happens as soon as I turn on the PC is that the camera led goes blue (which means that it is somehow recording something) and won't go back to its normal off state until I open a program that uses the camera (such as OBS, google meet or the camera app itself) and then close it. When i do that the led switches off. I'm a little bit scared by this thing, I really don't understand why my pc would ask the permission for the camera as soon as windows boots up unless there's something external asking for it. I've already checked for the "start-up programs" from the task menager and the log of the apps that asked for the camera permission and haven't noticed anything suspicious. I've also reinstalled the camera drivers and removed the permission to use the camera to as many apps as I could.
Should I be worried?
Thank you and sorry for my poor english, it's not my first lenguage
