Comments attribute unreadable by File Explorer

On my Windows 10 PC, the Comments attribute is no longer readable or writable from File Explorer or equivalent like xplorer2. It did work for the first two months I had the PC. This is the case for all file types from all drives and other PCs on the network. The Comments attribute for files can be read and written to by any other app on this PC and by any other PC on the network which can read the Comments attribute in its File Explorer. See below, File Explorer is on the left.

sfc /scannow dism and /online /cleanup-image /CheckHealth find no corruption and all other troubleshooters cannot locate any problems.

The following steps have been tried and do NOT resolve the issue:

  • Restore Defaults in File Explorer
  • Restore Defaults in Search
  • Rebuilding the Index
  • Rebooting in Safe Mode
  • Creating a new account either as Administrator or local
  • Running dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

The only update that happened the day before and day of the File Explorer no longer accessing Comments attributes was this mysterious one in Apps & features:

As you can see, Modify and Uninstall are grayed out. Microsoft Edge itself lacks the Advanced Options option and Modify shows by clicking on it does nothing. Restoring default values in Edge doesn't solve the Comments attributes issue. Obviously, Microsoft doesn't allow me to uninstall Edge.

Everything else on the PC works fine, but not being able to access Comments in files hinders my work.
