Video Card Problem

Hi. I installed a Nvidia GeForce 6200 256MB DDR Low Profile Dual DVI
& VGA (PCI) card on a Kadoka motherboard BIOS upgraded to 0AASNP06.
Computer is running Windows 98SE on an AMD-700 K6-III processor with
512MB of RAM.

The system hangs when I shut down with a blinking cursor. If I try to
restart in MS-DOS mode, it gives me a DOS screen with Windows
Protection Error, You Need to Restart Your Computer, and any key will
shut it down, although the state when I restart will not remember any
changes.

Gateway will not give tech support as this is third party (although
they recommended checking the power supply, but it's 350W so it's more
than they specified). Jaton, who sold me the card, suggested
upgrading the BIOS, which I did to no avail.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Try turning off video caching in your BIOS/CMOS setup. This was a
problem for me on two machines.

What driver are you using? I'll bet it's version 81.98. Revert to
version 77.72
and your troubles will cease. You can get them here:

Sorry, I'm not using the OP's video card. I had shutdown issues with
two older "generic" cards until I turned off caching in the BIOS. I
believe that there is a potential problem when Windows switches from
protected mode back to real mode just before shutting down.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I was indeed using version
81.98 of the driver, and I reverted to 77.72 using the link suggested
and it worked! Thanks very much.

There is no option relating to video in the BIOS for some reason.
Gateway and Jaton both suggested making changes to this as well, but
there's no way to do it that I can see.
