Dell XPS bought at end of Jan. Loaded "lightly" for biz dev and marketing type. Office and a handful of apps. Everything working fine.
Loaded Cisco Webex last night for a video call - usually a Teams or Zoom guy. Everything worked fine,
Woke up this morning and nothing booted right. Endless cycle wanting the Bitlocker image key which I inserted many a time with no resolution.
4 hours on the phone with the Dell folks.
-hardware working great
-no restore points were ever created - why?
-reinstall windows, keeping files failed x3
-reinstall windows from local machine failed x2
-reinstall windows after creating a boot disk worked but I lost my files (I am 80% cloud and 20% local and those 20% hurt)
Ouch.
Diagnosing, creating a boot disk, reinstalling office (during a MSFT cloud outage), reconfiguring - wow - that was 6-8 hours and lost work. Ouch.
Any idea how I can avoid this in the future (other than putting 100% of docs in the cloud). What may have happened?
Many thx people.
