I'm using an HP mini, running XP, mostly just to use old software that I can't get for newer devices. This little laptop has a headphone/mic jack, so I'm assuming the hardware is in place to output sound. The device manager reports "no audio device". What gives? I perform the usual tests included with the system, and they find no problems, nor does a newer driver apparently exist. The system claims not to be able to connect to the server for a WIndows update of said features. What to do? I have headphones, but they don't make any sound. I could try plugging in my other computer's speakers, but as they're plug-and-play, I doubt that would trigger some sort of installation process. As I said, the headphone jack is there, and the headphones make a little static pop when I plug/unplug them, so I figure there must be a physical connection to the computer from the jack. Did this model come with a headphone jack, but no physical audio device? Or am I just missing drivers?
Thanks for any help you can give.
