Touchpad not working when mouse is unplugged

I have a MSI GL75 laptop running the latest edition of Win10. I have a similar issue to:

Windows 10 always detecting a mouse, even when one is not connected

Which is locked. I have the "Leave touchpad on when mouse is connected" box unchecked in Settings>Devices>Touchpad. Turning off mouse or removing wireless dongle does not re-enable touchpad. I have to manually go in using keyboard shortcuts to enable this box to allow touchpad to be active if my mouse gets disconnected. I have tried the suggested fixes. Obviously, since my laptop is MSI not Dell that is not the issue. Did anyone ever find the fix for this issue?

I have to leave the touchpad disconnected when I game as the heel of my hand rests there when I game using WASD keys.

Edit: I was looking through some other suggestions. When I go to DM (Device Manager)>Human Interface Devices> HID-compliant touch pad>properties>Events I find the following event:

Device HID\CUST0001&Col03\5&29dce342&2&0002 was not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match.

Does this help anyone track down what's going on?
