Hi. Somewhere in the last week Microsoft fed an update of some kind to my desktop pc that is causing the sound to stop working after a random period of time. There is no way to bring the sound back other than reboot the machine... where it once again works for a period of time and then goes silent until the next reboot. The period of elapsed time is typically often hours but has also been minutes until failure.

The desktop pc s hooked up by HDMI to an LG monitor and operates in 1080p mode. It has all the updates applied of any kind. There are no outstanding updates .

This problem is not isolated to this one machine. I have two more windows pro machines that have started doing the same thing. One of these is HDMI for video with another model of LG monitor, the other is VGA and uses Line out for Audio to speakers.

I have run audio troubleshooter on all 3 machines and none can solve the problem other than to recommend a reboot.

Prior to a week ago all 3 machines were problem free.

Any input appreciated. Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution? I am ok with backing out updates and blocking them if could help.

Ed
