My up to date Windows 10 system boots fine. It logs the user in. Then before the user can actually start using the system, the system crashes. And I get some blue screen that says Microsoft is collecting data. Then it reboots and the whole process repeats.
i can get into safe mode,
There are files I really want saved off this computer. When I try boot the PC into safe mode and try to copy them onto a flash drive, Window Explorer gives me the error in the title of this post. “0x80070780: The File Cannot Be Accessed by the System”. It does that for almost every file I’ve tried to copy.
i’ve been reading for a few hours to try to fix this. I am very knowledgeable with computers. But VERY out of practice fixing Windows issues.
I downloaded the Kapersky Rescue Disk, got it to boot the PC, and it did a scan. Took two minutes and said it didnt find anything.
I tried a Windows Defender Offline Scan in safe mode. But the instruction I read say to go to Start -> Settings -> Upade & Security -> Windows Security -> Virus & Threat protection. But when I get to where I’m supposed to click on “Windows Security”. There’s no option that says that. The only option available is “Open Windows Security”. And when I click on that, just like a mostly empty window pops up. All it says it “Security at a glance. See what’s happening with the security and health of your device and taken any actions needed”. But there’s nothing under that heading. It’s just blank underneath it. There’s nowhere to choose “Virus & Threat protection”.
But the thing is, I think I’m wasting my time looking for malware. This is a seldom used computer. Used a couple of times a month for stuff like going to banking web sites in Chrome to pay bills. And it has BitDefender on it which should protect from most viruses.
I did recently download a piece of software called 4K Video Downloader because I needed to download a couple of videos from Youtube. But it was a recommended piece of software I downloaded from the publishers web site. And it was recommended from a reputable site (although I don’t remember exactly where I read it was good software right now.
So I’m thinking it’s a problem with the file system or the hard drive.
I ran “wmic diskdrive get model, status” and it says the internal drive is “OK”. So maybe it’s not a hardware problem?
In Windows Explorer, I go to the Properties dialog for the C: drive. In the “Tools” tab I click on “Check”. The first dialog says “You don’t need to scan this drive. We haven’t found any errors on this drive. You can still scan the drive if you want.” So I click on “Scan drive” and it says “Repair this drive. Windows found errors on this drive that need to be repaired. Close this dialog box, and then repair this drive”.
Any good advice on where to go from here to maximize my chances of being able to copy my files to a flash drive without losing anything?
Thank you.
