This problem has made me mad and couldn’t find a solution on the internet.
Recently I installed a copy of Windows 7 in my Mac Pro (Early 2009). However, the system showed “Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation”. While I tried several times formatting the hard drive again and again, finally succeeded.
But the real problem happened afterwards. Even though the hard disk was having the Windows 7 successfully installed, an invalid startup disk “Windows” still exists. In other words, when I boot the mac and choose my startup disk after pressing the option button, there are two selections of “Windows” hard drive. (One of them is with the installed Windows 7, other one is the faulty one made by unsuccessful installation.)
I have tried to use Disk Utility in the Mac and Disk Management in Windows to find out the faulty disk, no sign of the information of the faulty disk shows. Even though I tried to use startup repair, fix boot and mbr, the faulty disk has not been wiped out.
Does anyone have the clue and solutions to clear the faulty disk?
Here are some information for reference.
My Mac Pro have four hard disks. 2 of them are used for Mac OS, 2 of them are for Windows C drive and D drive (for backup).
Sequence of these hard disks are listed from disk0 to disk3. And the faulty disk is listed as disk4 and this is not physically exists.
