So I have an old windows 7 pc. I don't feeling like reinstalling programs on windows would rather do a windows 7 to windows 10 conversion. Though here is the dellima. I have some programs and games installed that work only on windows 7 and are a bit defunct now. They will not run in a virtual environment either due to direct 3d and direct x issues.
My thought is if I clone windows 7 os onto a new drive, can I take that clonned hard drive and upgrade it to windows 10 but use a new serial key for activation? I wouldn't mind paying for a new serial key.
I figure if I do this there would be no conflicts in case I wanted to dual boot later down the line that way I could still use windows 7 and windows 10 and I wouldn't have to go through the long process of a clean install for either system.
If this is possible how would I go about doing this? I want to do this as legitimately as possible.
