PC would not shut down.

My PC runs on XP-SP3, it would not shut down when prompted. Following screen msg reads, “Windows can not end this program. It may need more time to complete an operation. To return to Windows and check the status of the program click ‘Cancel’. If you choose to end the program immediately you will lose any unsaved data. To end ‘Click End Now’.


Please help in a simple language like open this, look for this, click this, and type this, I am not a computer boffin. Thank you.
