Hello,
I am trying to install a new OS of Windows 10 Pro on an old laptop running XP.
I have tried to set the boot device to USB (as I have a USB Stick with new Win 10 Pro) however I get an error saying to reboot and choose a boot device with something on it. This is a store bought USB stick, so the issue probably isn't there, but in the fact my laptop is over 10 years old.
Laptop: (original Alienware Area-51 m9750) Intel 1995Mhz, 2gb RAM,
OS: XP Pro service pack 3
Video Card: GeForce 8700m GT
New OS: Windows 10 Pro
Originally why I abandoned this VERY HEAVY laptop is that I had retired it as a work computer to simply be my music player (using Media Monkey to play my 50,000+ mp3 library) but it started getting blue-screens more and more often, until I put it on a shelf. Fast forward to 2021.
The reason I want to resurrect it, I play a lot of darts online (due to the pandemic) and I wanted to re-purpose this laptop to be a dedicated cam for darts, as it has a (huge in its day, 1.3mp cam built-in), I also have an old C615 external cam, 1080p, which would be ideal to get working on this.
I removed all the external software I had, the entire Adobe CS3 suite of products, yahoo messenger, skype, all files, etc. I then ran the disc defragmenter, in an effort to remove to optimize what is left. I'm not able to upgrade any browser nor use Windows updates.
I haven't had any blue screens recently and am currently typing this out on the laptop without issues.
So, how can I install windows 10 Pro?
The laptop will turn into a brick if I don't at least try, so whats the harm
thanks,
