VPN Ports

Hello,

What ports does VPN server use in Windows 2003 Server? I need to open up
ports on a router so the server can be accessed from the outside world. Also
where in Server2003 are the settings for "remote desktop access"? I want to
enable this and change the port.

Thanks

VPN uses port 1723.

If you just want Remote Desktop access and not full Terminal Services then
all you need to do is right click on My Computer and select Properties and
then within the Remote tab place a checkmark in the Enable Remote Desktop on
this computer. If you are going to access remote desktop with an account
other than administrator use the Select Remote Users box near the bottom.

That is the basics of it, if you have any issue with this let us know.

And IP Type 47 for GRE packets (for PPTP VPNs).

Stephen, know that this is not a port# you need to open. On most routers the
IP Type
47 will be a checkbox you need to checkmark called PPTP Pass Through. If
you do not see a checkbox with this description, and you have a higher end
enterprise level $$$ router, you should refer to your manual regardless. :)
