Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade to new Hard drive

Want to up date my C: hard drive to new larger one.Since my Windows Disk is a upgrade only how do I install it from scratch to a new drive ? I seem to remember years ago the headache I went through to get a product key from Microsoft any suggestions ?
