Re-activation problems

Split from this thread.I have a dell oem win 7 professional system that was running fine until the HDD crashed and was lost. I have reinstalled a new HDD in the tower and loaded the win 7 professional OS but am having difficulty re activating the windows with the OEM product key from the system. I tried the online activation and after a tedious entry of many digits multiple times, it still shows an error in win 7 activation.
