Windows 7 Task Manager not appearing with full function interface

Windows 7 Task Manager suddenly (while in use) assumed a different interface. No indications of usage units at the bottom, no three boxes in the upper right corner, no tabs to show active apps, other measures, etc. Can only be closed via Alt+F4. Any idea why, or how to resurrect the original interface?
