Adding a self-built Windows 7 computer to OneDrive Devices

I'm trying to add a self-built desktop PC to my Microsoft Account so I can sync OneNote notebooks with my Windows 10 computer. It wants a serial number. How can there be a serial number for a self-built computer? Perhaps the number on the Windows 7 Ultimate install disk?
