Departing 98 user Question

M

Mike E

Hi all,

I've been gifted with a Sony VAIO laptop, and wireless.
This has me awestruck so far!
It has Vista Home Premium.
Just want to find a forum for Vista? Does someone know?
Could not see one in any list.

Can someone suggest a forum?
Or, can you take a basic Vista question?

Thanks,
Mike

I truly appreciate all of you who have suggested the newsgroups.
The problem here seems to be that my IP doesn't carry those groups.

My Vista problem if I may mention it is that I have installed a couple
graphics programs
from my Win 98 setup, and on running them I'm greeted with a "system error
accessing the
registry"...(and)... that I "need registry modification privileges". Can't
yet find an answer to this.

Thanks,
Mike

NOOOO!!!! Don't go!!!!! You can get to MS newsgroups directly, without
having to go through your ISP's NGs. Click here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.general

It's an anonymous logon. No logon username or password is required.

No sooner does he get exposed to Vista, and the intelligence level of
the operator starts dropping...

Guess I was stupid to come here. I don't have NG savvy like you
regulars. So I did it again...invited this comment. I should know better

Thanks Gary. I still don't understand the workings of newsgroups
and accessing them. I appreciate the helpful comments. Your URL
got me there and allowed me to subscribe to the group.
I appreciate it.

No, you were not stupid to come here.
It's that just sometimes '98 Guy' is an ass, although not all the time.
Happy to hear you did find the Vista group.

Point your news reader to nntp.aioe.org. It's a free, anonymous news
server, it carries most of the Microsoft hierarchy, and what-ever it
doesn't carry you can ask for it to be added.

Anyone who tells you to use microsoft's web-interface is a bone-head.
