Windows 7 reset and installing

Hello , Yesterday , I found my old windows 7 laptop and I want to reuse it and it is soooo slow so I wanted to reset the device but it didn't worked so can someone tell me how or send me a video how . And I would like to ask : the laptop contains only 1 gb ram so it's very slow so I would like to ask witch windows operating system I should install , windows 7 or vista and how I install it ?Thank you
