Problem playing sounds on my Windows 7 Dell desktop

I did something by mistake yesterday and every since then, no sounds will play on my Dell desktop running Windows 7.I went to Dell Audio->Speaker/Headphone->Speaker setup. I clicked 7.1 surround by mistake - and the app seemed tohang for a long time - I eventually killed the app, but ever since then, no sounds will play. Everything was working tilljust before that.I restarted the machine, but no luck.When I got to the Volume Mixer, I do not see any applications.
