Trying to run an old DOS programme...

I am trying to run an old dos programme, but the setup returns an error sayng "It is impossible to start the graphic modality."I guess that's a bad translation of graphics mode not available or somesuch.The programme itself will run, but its display is somewhat distorted.Any suggestions?This was running in a DOS window on Windows XP. I've tried FreeDOS, and had the same problem, plus a bigger problem of needing drivers for the hardware...
