Uninstalling several default MS programs

These are programs I never use, so uninstall.

1. I uninstalled Outlook Express, rebooted, it no longer shows in
Add/Remove. But the uninstall left a folder with files in Program Files.

Can this be deleted?

2. Address Book- uninstalled, seems no effect, still in Add/Remove, How to
uninstall?

3. Scheduling Agent- as in #2 above. It is not running in System Tray. How
to uninstall?

1. No, you merely removed access to OE. It cannot be
uninstalled/deleted/removed: It's part of Windows.

2. Ditto.

3. Part of Windows/cannot be removed.

Oooo...a new ms thread

1. Yes.

2. Remove registry entry...
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\
Uninstall, and remove unwanted key under "Uninstall."

3. Delete all mstask.* files. Personally, I wouldn't bother, less
than 1 MB total, and who knows what else might get screwed up?.

Have to add 2 more as last unknowns in Add/Remove. I try to only keep
necessary entries there. This is a used machine, so I didn't do the
original install.

ADIE Language Pack

Both of these IIRC were not present in past W98SE installs on other
machines.

Did Google search, got no definitive answers on either of them for W98SE.

Can they be uninstalled?

If they're listed in Add/Remove Programs, I assume they can be uninstalled,
yes. Should you uninstall them? Dunno. I'd leave the first one alone
myself, and I've never heard of the second one.

Yes, I hear you. I may temporarily move the folders, see if no problems.
That's one of the advantages of Gary Terhune's comments awhile back on
clean installs. Some of these issues never come up.

ms, dunno if you placed your friend 'DadiOH' in as special file
so you didn't see the other followup, but the above is not
correct for Win98xE. Outlook Express is an Optional Component and
can be uninstalled. Whence that is done it's master the Windows
Address Book (WAB), another Optional Component can also be
uninstalled.

If the IE6-Bundle has been installed, you first uninstall that
version of OE from there, in the Add/Remove control panels
default tab, then use the Windows Optional Components tab to
uninstall OE version 5 and the WAB.

I was left with 4 leftover crud-files in OEs 'Program Files'
subfolder. Deleted this folder without any problems.

That part is a puzzle. Yesterday while testing the W98 machine, I dialed
up, opened my newsreader, went to my thread, saw the post by dadiOh, which
for a change was reasonable wording. But today, in my normal W2K computer,
same newsreader/thread, his post is gone. He must be able to delete his own
message from his ISP. Most ISP's don't allow that. I didn't bother to
killfile him so it is truly missing.

My newsreader is Xnews, very reliable. My ISP is Individual.net, used it
for years, very good reputation. The OS does not effect what I see

I did see the post, " et al." confirms it was there, now it's gone.

Are you seeing it still ?

Also, my computer time in both machines was up to date. This, of course,
is the usual reason for missing posts in a newsgroup.
