Determining USB port version

D

Don Culp

How can I determine if my computer's USB ports are version 1 or 2. (The
reason I'm asking is that copying files to a USB drive seems very slow so I
suspect that the ports may be version 1.)

Thanks,

Look at your USB ports in "device manager": if you have any USB-2 ports it
will show "enhanced" or USB-2.

If you do not see that, you have USB-1

BTW: some machines have both USB1 and USB 2 ports...
which obviously can require a bit of trial and error to sort out.

If you need to add USB-2 the add-on PCI cards are quite inexpensive...so
it's usually not a big deal to upgrade.
