External hard drive is write protected but it's always shared with "everyone".

Using a Western Digital external hard drive and attempting to copy and paste to external hard drive from main drive but unable to. I get "disk is write protected. Remove the write protection or use another disk".Every single file and folder are shared with "everyone" on my computer which also includes the external hard drives. Is there a way to disable "write protected"? Also.....I DO NOT want to format any drives at all or delete anything, I just want to copy and paste but it's not allowing me. Thanks in advance.
