CD-Rom from 1994 won't play on windows

Q: I have Microsoft Windows 7 or 8 and wanted to play a CD-Rom from 1994, but it says it is not compatible. I found a new CD I could by from 2002 but don't want to purchase if it won't play. Can anyone tell me the answer? Need 1
