I can see and hear my headset microphone in sound control panel but not when trying to set it up.

When trying to use voice recorder it says "You need to set up a microphone in settings." When i do that the troubleshooter comes up i click cortana can't hear me, then set up mic. AND THEN IT SAYS "problems found: MICROPHONE MIGHT NEED TO BE SET UP" what am i supposed to do?
