How to get Digital Certificate for Outlook 2007?

Hi, I used to use a Verisign certificate for Outlook 2003 that I paid
$20/year for. When I try to obtain a similar certificate for Outlook 2007

It offers only two providers both of which charge $360/year per person.

I tried to get the versign ID to work without luck. Does anyone know of any
other solution that would work and have tried it? TIA

I got a Thawte email certificate and can use it to sign and encrypt email.

works, then I will let you know.

What problems did you have with the Verisign cert?

With the Verisign it only has instructions for older versions of Outlook,
not Outlook 2007.

With Thawte, I tried that before and again just now and on the generate
private key page it gives me an error message. It wants to install the
activeX control. It first says Object 424 required...
It says please select the CSP from the list below but the dropdown box
doesn't have anything in it.

It then says the 1024 key generation has failed, would you like to try 512
instead.

It then says would you like to run activeX control Microsoft Active
Directory Certificate Services....I click install and it fails....

I'm using Vista...are you? My problem may be due to:

Thank you. I had ended up using an XP machine to generate the certficate.
But I get a certificate called "mycert.spc". When I try to import it into
Outlook 2007 I don't seem to get the certificate. Any ideas? TIA

David,

Go into the IE settings (Internet Options/Content-Certificates). From there
you can import your cert from Thawte or any other provider then it will be
availabe for configuration in Outlook 2007. <sarcasm>Big thanks to MS for
the straight forward answer on that one.</sarcasm>
