size on disk is ridiculous and many times larger than my hard drive

I agree that it's useful to know how much actual disk space small files take up in assigned clusters but when 27GB of files show up as taking up 55.3 TB of space on my 1TB hard drive there's something ridiculously wrong. Why is this so outlandishly incorrect?
