Nothing will open in Windows 10.

Hi, I have a HP all in one desktop computer. Suddenly, nothing will open. I can get the start menu open, but when i click on something, nothing opens at all. Sometimes it just shows a black screen and that's it. I have read this could be a sign the hard drive has failed, or is failing. Any help would be amazing.
