I'm using an external DVD drive and number pad through a Belkin USB hub on a Dell G7 laptop. At random times, the USB connection will disappear. To get it back, I would have to unplug and plug in the USB from the hub. When I say random times, I mean it could be fine for half a day or disconnect within minutes of me plugging it in. I would say that it normally would disappear every 1-2 hours. I searched the Web for answers, most of which had to do with disabling the setting that allows the laptop to turn off a USB connection as part of the power management plan.
