How do you update a Microsoft Mouse Chip Driver?

I received a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 4000 for Christmas and plugged it in, and it says, Setting up Microsoft® Nano Transceiver v1.0. My brother has the same mouse, he has had it for over 4 years and yet it still has a newer version (around 2.0). Is there any way I can update it? This mouse also lags here and there and sometimes stops moving (I know it's not lag).
