Microsoft adapter is only casting to TV screen while blanking out Laptop. Window key + P does not update to required choice of Duplicate.

Hello,I am using a Compaq laptop Model 15 with Windows 10. All software up-to-date.I had some updates a day or so before I ran into this trouble. On Aug11 I updated the file KB5016616 (Cumulative Update) and KB5012170 (Security update). I have been using the Microsoft adapter to stream videos. Suddenly when I wanted to connect my Laptop to my TV, the Laptop screen went blank and the TV received the picture. I uninstalled the app and downloaded and reinstalled it which did not fix it..
