My friends computer wont boot, repair, or reset. Am i able to take the drive he has windows on and use my pc to wipe it, then reinstall windows on it?

My friend's pc was working fine, but then it started crashing. He could boot to windows and his home screen before it would crash. Eventually, he couldn't even boot to windows anymore. We tried all troubleshooting problems. We tried resetting from the troubleshooting and it was unable, it was also unable to repair. We tried the windows media installation key method. Switched his boot drive to the drive with the media key on it. It would load to the purple screen and then after going through the steps it was copying/installing files, but it would crash right after. We are all out of ideas and I
