Disabling HID-compliant mouse causes device manager to freeze

My cursor has disappeared, neither trackpad nor my mouse do anything. I turned on "use Ctrl to show where cursor is" and found where it should be, but there is no cursor there and the location never updates. I've tried every suggestion found online: f7, uninstall and reinstall mouse driver, check for updates etc. When I try to uninstall my mouse drivers, the uninstall never finishes, so I canceled it with task manager. When I try to disable the mouse via device manager, the manager freezes. It has been "not responding" for at least 10 minutes. Update: my laptop restarted when I went to the kit
