Some .mov files has no thumbnail displayed and they cannot be played with any program w/ green bar gets stuck

1. Dumping files off of iPhone and iPad. It started out fine with thumbnail seen for all files on both devices2. When organizing the files, thumbnails stopped showing for some .mov files3. Those without thumbnail would not play, no matter what program I use (VLC, Windows media player, Movies & TV, Quick Time)4. After checking/looking around, restarting computer, etc., some began to show thumbnail, then they became playable5. But no luck for the rest, and same applies to many old files6.
