Deleting drop down box text

It can't be this hard to get a straight answer from Microsoft or the community. I think my question is straightforward. Do you know those drop-down boxes you get when you log into various sites? They save your input. How do you stop them from saving your input information? For example, I've accidentally copied and pasted a password into the wrong box in the sign-in window. I.e. instead of the password box, I pasted it into the email address box. Now, each time I want to sign into the site, my password (old) shows up in the email dropdown box.
