Memory issue

I own a Lenovo X 250. It came with installed memory of 8GB. I had a card installed with an additional 8Gb. For the past few months, the computer has become very slow. I notice this only when loading and saving Excel files. It never was an issue. It takes a few minutes, and Excel will sometimes freeze while working and will resume.
